How to update AGD318 radar and WiFi firmware

This article explains how to update AGD318 radar and WiFi firmware.

Update the radar firmware first, then load the matching Wi-Fi firmware and verify the installed versions and checksums.

Check firmware compatibility

Compatible Wi-Fi firmware

MI-199-2 or earlier

MI-201-1

MI-199-3

MI-201-2

MI-201-1 and MI-199-3 are not compatible because the communications protocol changed. After MI-199-3 has been loaded, the Wi-Fi module cannot communicate with the radar until MI-201-2 is installed.

Before you begin

  • Obtain the released firmware package for the exact detector build from AGD Technical Support.
  • Use a stable power supply and do not interrupt power during programming.
  • Record the existing radar and Wi-Fi versions before changing either image.

Update the radar firmware

  1. Connect to the AGD318 Wi-Fi network and open 192.168.4.1 in a browser.

  2. Open Settings, reboot the detector, wait approximately 30 seconds, then refresh the page.

  3. Reboot the Wi-Fi module and reconnect the computer if required.

  4. Choose the released radar firmware ZIP file and select Re-Flash Radar Firmware.

  5. Wait for the progress bar to complete. The process can take several minutes.

  6. If progress pauses at approximately 50 percent, wait at least 45 seconds because flash memory may be erasing. If it remains stalled, reboot the Wi-Fi module, reconnect and retry the upload.

Update WiFi firmware MI2012 and later

  1. Reconnect to 192.168.4.1 and open Settings.

  2. Choose the released Wi-Fi firmware ZIP file.

  3. Select Re-Flash WiFi Firmware and wait for the progress bar to complete.

  4. Reconnect to the detector Wi-Fi network if the computer does not reconnect automatically.

Update a unit still running MI2011

The MI-201-1 process requires the AGD SW-049 local web server and two approved binary files named user1.bin and user2.bin. Run the server with administrator rights, point it at the folder containing both files, use local address 192.168.4.2 and port 8080, then select Re-Flash WiFi Firmware in the detector interface. This legacy process should be completed only by authorised service personnel.

Recover and verify

If a failed update erases the radar image, retry using the same detector network name. A later Wi-Fi module may fall back to a default network name beginning with ESP. Obtain the approved recovery credential from AGD Technical Support rather than publishing it in an unrestricted article.

  1. Read the Wi-Fi build number at the top right of the web page.

  2. Open Terminal and send AGD to read the radar firmware version.

  3. Send *CRC32? and confirm that the calculated checksums match the expected released values.
