How to set a version 17 green aspect PCB to legacy mode
This article outlines how to switch nearside PCBs to legacy mode to improve compatibility and prevents false warnings with older systems.
Use legacy mode when the lower current draw of a version 17 green aspect PCB causes an older controller to report a false lamp fault.
Why legacy mode is needed
Version 17 green aspect PCBs use less power than earlier boards. Some controller current-monitoring systems can interpret the lower load as a failed aspect. Legacy mode changes the PCB behaviour to improve compatibility. Red aspects are not affected.

Not supported in the source note |
Confirm current controller support before changing the PCB. Legacy mode is required when the controller cannot support version 17, or when one version 17 board is fitted alongside green aspect boards at version 16 or earlier in the same installation.
Identify the board version
-
Isolate the signal and prove it is dead under the approved traffic signal procedure.
-
Open the signal and locate the green aspect PCB.
-
Read the manufacturing label and find the number following CB23X.
-
Continue only if the board version is 17 or later. Legacy mode is not supported on an earlier board.
Change to legacy mode
-
With the aspect isolated and not illuminated, locate the jumper on the rear of the PCB.
-
Remove the jumper from the default LO position and fit it to the vacant MID position.
-
Reassemble the signal, restore power under the approved procedure and confirm correct controller monitoring and aspect operation.
To return the PCB to normal mode, isolate the aspect and move the jumper from MID back to LO.
