What are the installation requirements for the AGD650?

This guide is designed to support engineers when siting and installing AGD650 Multi Modal Detectors.

Overview

The AGD650 AI Multi Modal Detector requires specific mounting and alignment parameters to achieve optimal detection performance. Incorrect installation can reduce detection accuracy and increase the likelihood of occlusion.

Recommended Mounting Height

The detector should be mounted between:

  • Minimum height: 3 metres
  • Maximum height: 6 metres

If installation outside this range is required, contact AGD Systems for guidance.

Selecting the Correct Mounting Pole

For cycle refuge applications:

  • Mount on the side of the road closest to approaching cyclists.

For bus lanes or routes with large vehicles:

  • Mount on the side of the road with the lowest volume of buses or HGVs to minimise occlusion.

Pole Distance and Lane Coverage:

Distance from Stop Line Maximum Lanes Covered
1.2m 1 lane
1.8m 2 lanes
2.4m 3 lanes
3.0m 4 lanes

Traffic Signal Mounting

When mounting on a signal head:

  • Use the supplied 6-inch extension bracket.
  • Ensure the detector can see over signal backing boards.
  • If the stop line is within 1.4m of the pole, use a 90° bracket to look around the signal head.

Alignment Best Practices

  • Aim the detector toward the centre of the area of interest.
  • Ensure the complete stop line is visible in the live view.
  • Include at least one full vehicle length before and after each detection zone.
  • Keep the horizon out of view where possible to minimise sun glare.
  • Tighten all mounting hardware securely before commissioning.

Verification

After installation:

  1. Open the live traffic view.
  2. Confirm the stop line is fully visible.
  3. Verify that all detection zones cover the intended lanes.
  4. Observe live traffic and confirm correct operation.
