How AGD343 annual recertification is performed
This article explains how the AGD343 annual re-certification process is performed.
The proposed AGD343 recertification process checks speed and range response, transmit characteristics and internal self-test measurements in a controlled chamber.
Who should use this article
This is an assurance overview for approved AGD and partner personnel. It is not a field calibration procedure. The source requirement is annual calibration under section 10.1.1 of the Home Office Speedmeter Traffic Light and Prohibited Lane Enforcement Camera Handbook version 2.0.
Target simulation method
The AGD343 measures range, Doppler speed and elevation. The proposed test equipment receives the radar signal, adds a controlled delay to represent target range, applies IQ modulation to represent target speed, and transmits the signal back to the radar. A frequency counter measures the received transmission for the required and indicative checks.
Chamber arrangement
- Use an anechoic chamber to reduce reflections and improve repeatability.
- The proposed chamber is a 1.2 m cube because the calculated AGD343 near-field distance is approximately 1.1 m.
- Place the simulator antenna 310 mm below the AGD343 antenna boresight to create an expected elevation measurement of approximately 15 degrees.

The approved partner test rig, chamber design, software, tolerances and traceability records must be controlled by the formal recertification process.
